When life is hard and we are confronted with many challenges, we often wonder why we are here, what is the purpose of life.
The truth is that each one of us has been created by God and that He has a special purpose for each of us. These are words declared to us by the Most High God, the Creator of the universe: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jer.29:11). This verse always uplifts my spirit and helps me to refocus during times of difficulties. This tells me that I am not here as a mere accident, but that there is a special and unique purpose for my life, with a good outcome.
We are created by God for God. The Bible states: • “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.” (Col.1:16). • “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Eph.2:10)
Psalm 139 is another important scripture for us to embrace as it tells us that we are special and created by the intention of God, that he knows us intimately and that He continually watches over us. “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you.” (Psalm 139:13-18).
I pray that we will all take courage from knowing who created us and how God watches over us. We may not yet fully understand why life is so challenging and hard at times (the topic for a future post) but let us rejoice knowing that we are His workmanship, His special possessions. As the Word instructs us, let us love God and praise Him.
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1Pet.2:9).
