My Truth: Each of us are here on earth for a purpose.
In the face of the ongoing trials of life when we feel downtrodden and without hope we sometimes wonder, “Why am I here?”. I believe that the Most High Father created each one of us with a special purpose. He is the potter and we are the clay. “Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honourable use, some for dishonourable.” (2Tim.2:20). We are the vessels created by God. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Eph.2:10).
As His workmanship, we are created for God’s pleasure and to bring Him glory. This is confirmed by the following verses:
- “Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” (Isa.43:7).
- “Jesus answered, Neither hath this man (born blind) sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.” (John 9:3).
- “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1Cor.10:31).
The Most High Father created each of us with a unique assignment. We are to seek the Father earnestly to understand our specific purpose. Here are some examples of the assignments of people in the Bible:
- “Before I formed you (Jeremiah) in the womb I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jer.1:5)
- “For if you (Esther) keep silence at such a time as this, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another quarter, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Est.4:14).
- “But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you (Saul who became the Apostle Paul) for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you”. (Acts 26:16)
If each of us have a special purpose then what are our duties? The Word is very clear that for each of us there is work to be done. “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” (Eph.4:11-12).
In Matthew 25:14-29 we read about the parable of the talents. We all long to hear these words from our Creator: “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.” (Matt.25:21). Let us therefore take heed of the following instructions and do accordingly.
- “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt.28:19).
- “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” (2Tim.4:2).
- “The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecc.12:13).
- “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Mic.6:8).
- “Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him.” (1Cor.7:17).
