I recently had a conversation with someone about “What is truth?”. The truths we live by determine how we live our lives, what decisions we make and how we respond to challenges we face daily. What we believe as truth should therefore stand on a firm foundation. If not, we may find ourselves in the same position as the Israelites who said: “Our fathers have inherited naught but lies, worthless things in which there is no profit. Can man make for himself gods? Such are no gods!” (Jer.16:19-20).
Over the next few posts I am going to share the truths I live by and show the basis for these truths from scripture. I pray that this will encourage you to reflect on the truths you live by and ensure that your truths are based on a sound foundation.
The fundamental truth I live by is that God exists and that God reigns. In the Book of Revelation, God describes Himself as follows: “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty” (Rev.1:8). God is without beginning and without end. God always was and always will be. I believe that I am created by this God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob according to what is recorded for us in the book of Genesis. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth....Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Gen.1:1 and 26-27).
In Exodus God instructed Moses to introduce Him to the Israelites as follows: “And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ Moreover God said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’ (Exo.3:14-15).
If you need more proof about the existence and the greatness of God then just look outside. In nature we clearly see the hand of God in the perfection of the created world, in the plants and animals, in the renewal of life through the seasons and the order in movements in the sun, moon, stars and planets. God sustains it all in perfect order. King David testified to the existence and greatness of God as follows: “The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.” (Ps.19:1-4).
Here are some of the qualities of this God whom I serve: • God is love (John 3:16 / Jer.29:11) • God is approachable, merciful and patient (Jer.29:12-14) • God is faithful (Deut.7:9 / Num.23:19) • Nothing is impossible for God (Jer.32:17 / Mark10:27/ Job42:2)
Who is the God you believe in and trust with your life?
My Prayer
Father AhaYah, the Great I AM, the Lord God Almighty, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the One who was, who is and who is to come, thank you for creating us, and for Your love and mercy. Please help us to reflect on the truths we base our lives on and give us the courage to amend our beliefs if they are not based on Your truth. We pray this in the mighty name of our Saviour, Holy YahshaYah. Aman.
