We are about to enter the seventh month according to the Biblical calendar and it is therefore time to remind ourselves of and prepare for the celebration of the feasts appointed by Yah for this month.
In Leviticus 23 is recorded for us the feasts Yah has appointed for the Israelites to keep. After the description of each feast, Yah stated that: “It is a statute for ever throughout your generations”. Not all of us may be descendants of Jacob, however, through the blood of Jesus we have been grafted into the Covenant. Observing these feasts is therefore a requirement for all of us who are followers of Jesus.
Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). We keep the 10 Commandments as recorded for us in Exodus 20, yet today not many followers of Jesus keep Yah’s commandments about His appointed feasts. In Amos Yah said: “I hate, I despise your feasts, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies” (Amos 5:21). Is Yah referring here to the man-made feasts of Easter, Christmas and the likes? In Jeremiah we read: ‘Our fathers have inherited naught but lies, worthless things in which there is no profit’” (Jer. 16:19).
Brothers and Sisters, I pray that we will all consider how we serve our God and ask Holy Spirit to point out to us to us where we or our fathers have strayed away from the truth.
The appointed feasts ahead of us are as follows:
The Feast of Trumpets (14/15 Sep) – “Say to the people of Israel, in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with the blast of trumpets, a holy convocation” (Lev.23:24).
The Day of Atonement (23/24 Sep) – “On the tenth day of the seventh month is the day of atonement, it shall be for you a time of holy convocation, and you shall afflict yourself and present an offering of fire to the Lord” (Lev.23:27). This is day of fasting and repenting for our sins.
The Feast of Tabernacles (28 Sep to 5 Oct) – “On the fifteenth day of the seventh month and for seven days is the feast of booths to the Lord. On the first day shall be a holy convocation, you shall do no laborious work.
Shemini Atzeret (5/6 Oct) - “On the eight day (after the seven days of the Feast of Tabernacles) you shall hold a holy convocation and present an offering by fire to the Lord; it is a solemn assembly; you shall do no laborious work.
My Prayer
Father AhaYah, thank you that you have appointed days when we should celebrate and worship You our Creator and our Redeemer. Father, please forgive us that we have not followed these commandments You have given us. Forgive us for following the traditions we have inherited from our fathers without honouring Your instructions recorded for us in Your Word. Thank you that through the blood of Jesus we can share in Your promises of redemption and eternal life. Father we want to serve You in spirit and in truth. Please instruct us and teach us Your way and counsel us with You eye upon us. We pray in the name of Jesus. Aman.
