“A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, but when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken” (Pro.15:13).
My Prayer
Father AhaYah we come before You today to lament with and for the broken-hearted. Father there is so much brokenness around us. Many are experiencing the agony and pain of Job when he said: “My days are past, my plans are torn apart, even the wishes of my heart” (Job17:11); and that of the Psalmist: “For I am afflicted and needy, and my heart is wounded within me” (Ps109:22).
Father, please remember those who have seen their dreams shattered, who have seen their families torn apart through divorce, or witnessed a death of a loved one through senseless violence and those who watch their children suffer under burdens they cannot help them to bear. Father, remember those afflicted by physical ailments that prevent them from doing normal everyday things that others take for granted. Remember those with mental health issues that keep them bound. Father many are suffering as a result of bad choices in life and feel that there is no comeback from that. They may have been rejected by family, friends and society and sometimes even the church. Many suffer under the burden of poverty, in a society where opportunities are denied those without riches or influence.
These verses from You Word are so true of what many are feeling:
- “Reproach has broken my heart and I am so sick. And I looked for sympathy, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none” (Ps.69:20).
- “I am benumbed and badly crushed; I groan because of the agitation of my heart” (Ps.38:8).
- “I am forgotten as a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel” (Ps.31:12)
Father, this is our plea to You today on behalf of all the broken-hearted in whatever situation they may find themselves in: A Prayer of the Afflicted when he is faint and pours out his complaint before the Lord. “Hear my prayer, O Lord! And let my cry for help come to You. Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress; Incline Your ear to me; In the day when I call answer me quickly” (Ps.102:1-2).
Father, we thank you that Your Word assures us that You are near to the broken-hearted and that You save those who are crushed in spirit (Ps.34:18). Father, we are also encouraged by Your comforting Words in Isaiah 61:
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners” (Isa.61:1).
Father AhaYah, we pray in Jesus name, please establish Your Word this day. Aman.
