The Parable of the Sower
“A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.” (Matt.13:3-9).
My Prayer
Father AhaYah, we come before you today to lament for the many who have heard Your Word, about Your saving grace and the redemption from sin through the blood of Jesus, yet for various reasons have not embraced this gift from You. Father, many have allowed the distractions of this age, including work, entertainment, sport, and the likes, to draw them away from You. Many are burdened with the cares of life. In their striving for career success and in their endeavours to attain wealth, comfort, pleasure and financial security many are working themselves to the bone, allowing themselves very little quality of life and even less time to reflect on You. Many do not know You or allow themselves the time to study Your Word. With their focus their own plans and satisfying the lusts of the flesh they are easy victims for the snares of satan.
Father, the seeds planted through Your Word are constantly being suffocated by the lies and deceit spread by the enemy through the media, entertainment and social online platforms. Many of us have become trapped by our handheld devices at the cost of healthy relationships with our loved ones and friends. As we long for the experiences, riches and perceived joys of others, these tools often contribute to feelings of envy, isolation and depression. Although they became an important means to connect with others during this time of social separation, these devices can by no means fulfill our need for quality engagement with others; they are like the thorns that choke the seeds of in the parable of the sower.
Thank you, Father AhaYah, for Your love, mercy, grace and long-suffering. Father, please forgive us for making our careers, homes, holidays, pets, children, sports or entertainment idols that we place before You. Forgive us for not taking the time to get to know You, our loving Father and for not building our relationship with You. Please help us to understanding that the things we pursue to achieve recognition, purpose, fulfillment and wholeness in this life have no lasting value. Father, in Your mercy, please help us to understand what is important during our short time here on earth. Your Words teaches us to first seek the kingdom of heaven and all the things that we need will be added unto us. Please teach us to focus on the things from above and not on the things around us that are soon passing away.
Father, please hear this petition made to You out of our desperation as we see so many of our loved ones and those around us on the wide path that leads to destruction. In Your mercy, please do what is necessary to awaken us from the stupor that we are in and guide us onto the path that leads to Life. In Jesus name. Aman.
