Do you fear God? In Hebrews 10:31 we are told, "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God".
When we read the words of the prophet Nahum we understand the reason for this, Nahum 1 reads:
- The Lord is a jealous God and avenging, the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on His adversaries and keeps wrath for His enemies.
- The Lord is slow to anger and of great might, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.
- The mountains quake before Him, and the hills melt; the earth is laid waste before him and the world and all that dwells therein.
- Who can stand before His indignation? Who can endure the heat of His anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by Him. (This prophesy has not yet been fulfilled.)
Are you sure that you are not an enemy of God? This is how the Word describes God's enemies: "Unfaithful creatures! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God" (James 4:4). And this is a reflection of the 'world' referred to in the verse above: "But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving God, holding a form of godliness but denying the power of it" (2Tim3:1-5). From this we understand that being in the 'world' makes one an enemy of God. God is Holy and expects us to be holy too, in other words, being set apart from the world.
Proverbs 9:10 states that, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight". Let us today seek wisdom so that we can walk with our God with reverence and fear.
My Prayer
Father Yahuah, we rejoice knowing that you love us, but today the words of Your prophet Nahum are disturbing to us. Please expand our knowledge of You and Your ways so that we would never be reckoned among Your enemies. Please Father, instruct us and teach us Your way. Please counsel us with Your eye upon us so that we will walk worthy of Your blood shed for us and mindful of the fact that You are a consuming fire. We pray in Jesus name. Aman.
