We are continuing our series on walking in the commandments of Yah. Thus far we discussed some characteristics of Yah and the things He hates. Over the next few days I would like to focus on who we are.

This is the promise God made to Abraham, "I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, and so you shall be a blessing; and I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And you and all the families of the earth will be blessed" (Gen 3:2-3). And this is the promise God made to the Israelites who came out of Egypt, "Now therefore, if you will obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my own possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine, and you shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation." Further wonderful blessings like being the head and not the tail, were spoken to them as recorded in Deuteronomy 28. However, all these blessings are dependent upon them keeping God's commandments. Chapter 28 ends with numerous curses upon the Israelites if they should fail to keep God's commandments.

You may think that this does not apply to us as we are not Israelites. Today, as knowledge is increasing and we gain better understanding of the dispersion of people reported in the Bible, we find that many more of us are Israelites than what we first believed. We find that the Bantu or Nguni people who migrated south through Africa and into South Africa originated from the dispersed Hebrew tribes. As a consequence of inter-marriage, many South Africans are blood descendants of Abraham and therefore heirs to the promises made to him by God.

However, if you are not a blood descendant than you are still included in the promise. The Word tells us that we are all descendants of Abraham, either by blood or grafted in through the blood of Jesus into the olive tree, which is the tribes of Israel, the sons of Jacob. The Word states, "Remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near in the blood of Christ" (Eph 2:12-13). "And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise" (Gal 3:29).

My Prayer

Holy Yahushua, thank you that through Your blood we become descendants of Abraham and heirs to the wonderful promises you made to him. Please teach us your commandments so that we can enjoy these blessings. Aman.
