The Day of Atonement starts today 27th September at sunset until sunset 28th Septembers. This is one of the Holy Feast days the Most High Father instituted through Moses for all generations to come; and therefore also for us. It is a day when the Israelites were instructed to afflict themselves and to make atonement for their sins through sin offerings. The Day of Atonement is a Holy Sabbath day of rest as described in Leviticus 23: 26-32.
Today we as Believers of Jesus, we observe this day through prayer and fasting. Scripture requires that we afflict ourselves on this day. I recommend that we obtain guidance from Holy Spirit about the level of fasting appropriate for us. Many Believers abstain from all food and water for 24 hours.
Our prayers on this day should be toward spiritual cleansing. When we repented and received Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, our sins have been forgiven and removed from us as far as the east is from the west. However, we are still required to repent daily for those sins we still commit as a result of our flesh. So on the Day of Atonement we ask for forgiveness of our sins, and we renounce any strongholds that may hinder our walk. We also ask for any open doors to the enemy to be closed so that we can walk unhindered in holiness and full submission before the Most High Father.
I would therefore invite you to pray this prayer of renunciation written by John Eckhart with me:
- I renounce all lust, perversion, immorality, uncleanness, impurity, and sexual sin in the name of Jesus.
- I renounce all witchcraft, sorcery, divination, and occult involvement in the name of Jesus.
- I renounce all ungodly soul ties and immoral relationships in the name of Jesus.
- I renounce all hatred, anger, resentment, revenge, retaliation, unforgiveness, and bitterness in the name of Jesus.
- I forgive any person who has ever hurt me, disappointed me, abandoned me, mistreated me, or rejected me in the name of Jesus.
- I renounce all addiction to drugs, alcohol, or any legal or illegal substance that has bound me in the name of Jesus.
- I renounce all pride, haughtiness, arrogance, vanity, ego, disobedience, and rebellion in the name of Jesus.
- I renounce all envy, jealousy, and covetousness in the name of Jesus.
- I renounce all fear, unbelief, and doubt in the name of Jesus.
- I renounce all selfishness, self-will, self-pity, self-rejection, self-hatred, and self-promotion in the name of Jesus.
- I renounce all ungodly thought patterns and belief systems in the name of Jesus.
- I renounce all ungodly covenants, oaths, and vows made by myself or my ancestors in the name of Jesus.
Jesus please hear our prayer and cover us with Your most precious blood. Aman.
