We often pray (Matt 6:9-10): "Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." I recently reflected on what exactly I'm asking for with these words. And this led me to consider the nature of God as an indication of what God's Kingdom is like. As expected, one can't do justice to a topic so vast in a short post like this. I would however highlight a few aspects of God's character to get a glimpse of that Kingdom we are praying for. As creator of the universe and all of us; and considering the beauty, complexity and order of God's creation, we know that God is powerful and mighty. We also know that God is righteous and holy. He taught the Israelites through Moses to be holy, i.e. not defiled or contaminated by sin, for He is Holy. We also understand that God is love. This God demonstrated by sending His Son to die in our place for our sins (John 3:16).
God has also shown his faithfulness by delivering on promises sometimes made hundreds of years before. Releasing the Israelites from slavery in Egypt and giving them the land promised to Abraham is an example of His faithfulness.
There is so much more to say about God's nature and what to expect in God's Kingdom and I'm sure that there is much more that will be revealed to us in time to come.
When considering the above and also the fruits of the Spirit of God of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Gal 5:22-23), I pray with greater earnest for God's kingdom to come.
Please pray this with me. Amen.
